The roots of my family tree are buried deep in the history of Newfoundland. I left the island more than 40 years ago, but my heart has remained, waiting for me to rejoin my family, to take the traditions I love back to where I learned them. For the past 10 years, I’ve been reassembling the pieces through an annual summer trek to Adams Cove. I have returned to the island with family and friends many times before, but never with such a strong sense of purpose. Although I still live far away from the island, I am walking steadily on the road that is taking me home.
